Ambrose Bierce letter to Adolphe Danziger, 1900 Nov. 11.

Bierce writes to his friend Danziger, 9 Nov. 1900, with encouraging questions about his work, and a mention of his own book of fables having been published by Putnam's but not selling well. He comments that his reputation with publishers must be poor, and closes with the news that his health is better than it has been for months.

Ambrose Bierce was born in Horse Cave Creek, Ohio, on June 24, 1842. After military service in the Civil War, he settled in San Francisco, where he met Mark Twain and became a columnist and writer. Bierce became known for his sharp, sarcastic wit while writing for the "Argonaut," the "Wasp," and the "San Francisco Examiner."
